KL Rahul, a pillar of the Indian batting lineup, will not play in the third Test match against England in Rajkot.
Jadeja was cleared to play in the pivotal third Test of the series, which is now poised 1-1, Rahul has not yet been deemed totally fit. It has come to light that the medical team informed the selectors that they will watch Rahul for an additional week before deciding whether or not to call him available. Rahul had already been ruled out of the second Test match in Vizag due to a right quadriceps strain that he had complained of during the Hyderabad first Test, as quoted by The Indian Express.
Devdutt Padikkal to step in as the replacement of KL Rahul
In the current series, the Indian squad has been hampered by injuries and withdrawals. The loss of Virat Kohli, the team’s superstar, who told the Indian board he would be missing the series for personal reasons, was the biggest blow to the Rohit Sharma side. The main batting prospect for India, Shreyas Iyer, then lost his spot in the team due to a lack of runs.
Devdutt Padikkal, another batsman from Karnataka, will take Rahul’s place in the Test team. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, was in the stands watching the Karnataka vs. Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy match when Paddikal hit 151 in his most recent encounter.
This season, the left-hander has been in incredible form. He scored 103 against Goa following his 193 against Punjab in the first Ranji match. In his three innings for India A in the two unofficial Test matches against the England Lions, Padikkal also scored 105, 65, and 21.
Padikkal comeback after injury
After his innings against Tamil Nadu, the opener talked about how he overcame health problems to score runs on a regular basis and how he was adaptable with his batting order.
“I don’t mind batting at No.3 and I don’t mind opening either. So that doesn’t really make a huge difference. As you play more and more cricket and as you gain experience, at this level you will naturally be able to play more shots because you will be more confident about your areas,” he had said.
