IND VS ENG : Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased a magnificent double century, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed figures of 5/41 as India secured a dominant 434-run victory over England in the Rajkot Test, their largest ever in history. England, tasked with chasing 557 runs, collapsed to 114 all out in just four days. This marked their sixth-lowest Test total against India, with Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav wreaking havoc on their batting lineup.
Jaiswal laid the foundation for India’s second-innings score of 430/4 declared with another consecutive Test double century. After being forced to retire hurt on 104 during the previous day’s play, Jaiswal returned to the crease when Shubman Gill was dismissed for 91. His stellar performance overshadowed any concerns about his earlier injury, leaving everyone in awe of his batting prowess.
He embarked on a relentless assault, wreaking havoc during a rapid 172-run partnership alongside Sarfaraz Khan, who registered his second fifty of the match. Despite being a debutant, Sarfaraz also displayed an impressive hitting display, concluding unbeaten on 68 runs from 72 deliveries, comprising six boundaries and three sixes. However, the spotlight undoubtedly belonged to Jaiswal, who remained undefeated on 214 runs from 236 balls, dominating the day’s play with his exceptional batting performance.
Their collective onslaught against England resulted in setting the visitors an immense target, from which they struggled to recover. The downfall began with the dismissal of Ben Duckett, who had been the centurion in the previous innings, signaling trouble for England. Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow failed to find their footing, while Zak Crawley continued to face difficulties against Jasprit Bumrah. With England reeling at 24/5, hopes were briefly raised when Ben Stokes and Joe Root attempted to resist, albeit unsuccessfully, prolonging the inevitable outcome.

In their pursuit of the daunting target, England suffered a dramatic collapse, with only two of their top six batsmen – Zak Crawley (7) and Stokes (15) – reaching double figures. India’s dominance over the English team was evident from the outset, with England opting for a notably cautious approach at the beginning of their innings.
England’s opening duo, Crawley and Duckett, renowned for their aggressive batting style, initially adopted a cautious approach, playing out two consecutive maiden overs before scoring their first runs in the third over. However, England encountered misfortune when Dhruv Jurel executed an exceptional run-out of Duckett, triggering a collapse for the visiting team. Shortly after, Crawley succumbed to a brilliant delivery from Bumrah just before the tea break.
As the match progressed, the pitch favored the spinners, allowing Kuldeep and Jadeja to dominate the English batting lineup. Pope was the first casualty, falling prey to a sharply spinning delivery from Jadeja. Bairstow, who had suffered a duck in the previous innings, met a similar fate as he was dismissed shortly thereafter.
England’s linchpin, Root, who had faced significant scrutiny for his dismissals throughout the Test series, endeavored to stabilize the innings alongside Stokes. However, India benefitted from a close LBW decision, with the review revealing the ball grazing the stumps. Stokes, too, fell victim to an LBW decision, this time against Kuldeep Yadav. The DRS confirmed that the ball would have hit the leg-stump, resulting in England losing a review in their innings (Root’s review was upheld as umpire’s call).
Tom Hartley and Mark Wood attempted to go down swinging, particularly the latter who managed to strike a few entertaining boundaries. However, ultimately, it was just a matter of time before India clinched victory. It took India less than 40 overs to dismantle England’s batting lineup and surge to a 2-1 lead in the series.
