India consolidated their lead in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a convincing five-wicket victory against England in the fourth Test at Ranchi on Monday. India, led by Rohit Sharma, took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series and moved up to second place in the WTC points standings.
Following their hard-fought victory, India’s point percentage increased from 59.52% to a remarkable 64.58%. This big improvement drove them ahead of Australia (55%) and Bangladesh (50%), with the two teams now trailing the Indian team in third and fourth places, respectively. Meanwhile, England is suffering in eighth place with a meagre 19.44% point percentage, barely ahead of Sri Lanka at the bottom of the standings.

India has won five of their eight matches in the current WTC cycle, with two losses and one draw. In contrast, England’s much-touted ‘Bazball’ approach has failed to produce substantial results, with the visitors winning only three games, losing five and drawing one.
New Zealand leads the pack with an amazing 75% point percentage despite having only played four Tests so far. The unique points system offers 12 points for a win, six for a tie, and four for a draw, with teams ordered by percentage of points earned.
The WTC final, slated for 2025 at the renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground, will feature the top two teams in the rankings. India, which has reached the final in both previous editions of the competition, is eager to redeem itself after losing to New Zealand in the first final and to Australia in the succeeding edition last year.
With the fifth and final Test scheduled to begin in Dharamsala on March 7, India now has a good opportunity to solidify their second place in the WTC standings.
On Day 4 of the Ranchi Test, Team India struggled after losing quick wickets in Yashasvi Jaiswal (37), Rohit Sharma (55), and Rajat Patidar (0). In the first few overs of the second session, the side lost Ravindra Jadeja for four and Sarfaraz Khan for a golden duck. However, youngsters Shubman Gill (52) and Dhruv Jurel (39) held their nerves and delivered a good performance to lead India home with a five-wicket victory.
