Robin Minz, a young tribal cricketer from Jharkhand who made waves during the IPL 2024 auction, was involved in an accident, his father confirmed on Sunday. The 21-year-old was purchased for Rs 3.60 crore by the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans, the IPL’s past champions. According to reports, the boy, known for his powerful striking talents, was on a Kawasaki superbike when he collided with another bike and lost control. News18 spoke with his father, Francis Minz, who verified the story.
“He lost control when his bike came in contact with another bike. Nothing serious at the moment and he is currently under observation,” says Francis.

Minz, a left-handed hitter and passionate follower of MS Dhoni, is well-known for his big-hitting ability. His cricketing adventure is being supervised by renowned coach Chanchal Bhattacharya, who has also tutored the former Indian captain. Originally from Jharkhand’s Gumla area, Minz rose to prominence after being spotted in the Mumbai Indians, who helped him train in the United Kingdom.
He currently resides in the Namkum region of Ranchi, Jharkhand’s capital, has played for Jharkhand’s U19 and U25 teams despite not having represented the state in the Ranji Trophy yet.
Robin lives with his two sisters and his father, a retired army man, who works as a guard at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport.
Minz gained spotlight at the mock auction leading up to the bidding war in Dubai, with former India cricketer Robin Uthappa referring to him as the ‘left-handed Kieron Pollard.’
