2025 Viterra Prairie Pinnacle Recap

On January 21-26, 9 of the best women’s curling teams headed to the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley to play down with hopes of representing Saskatchewan at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario on February 14-23, 2025!

The 9 Teams Competing at the 2025 Viterra Prairie Pinnacle are as follows:

  1. Team Englot – skip Sara Miller, third Ashley Williamson, second Patty Hersikorn, lead Michelle Englot, Coach Gerry Adams (Highland Curling Club)
  2. Team Thevenot – skip Ashley Thevenot, third Brittany Tran, second Taylor Stremick, lead Kaylin Skinner, coach Susan O’Connor (Nutana Curling Club)
  3. Team Barker– skip Penny Barker, third Lindsay Bertsch, second Taryn Schachtel, lead Danielle Sicinski, coach Sherry Anderson (Moose Jaw Curling Centre)
  4. Team Holland – skip Amber Holland, third Jill Shumay, second Sherri Singler, lead Trenna Derdall, alternate Deb Lozinski, coach Travis Brown (Sutherland Curling Club)
  5. Team Selzer – skip Mandy Selzer, third Erin Barnhart, second Megan Selzer, lead Sarah Slywka, coach Ken Bakken (Balgonie Curling Club)
  6. Team Martin – skip Nancy Martin, third Chaelynn Stewart, second Kadriana Lott, lead Deanna Doig (Nutana Curling Club)
  7. Team Campbell – skip Jolene Campbell, third Rachel Erickson, second Abby Ackland, lead Dayna Demmans (Highland Curling Club)
  8. Team McCartney – skip Jessica McCartney, third Jenna Hope, second Meghan Frerichs, lead Michelle Johnson, alternate Amanda Kuzyk, coach Jim Wilson (Nutana Curling Club)
  9. Team Stevenson – skip Brooklyn Stevenson, third Larisa Murray, second Callan Hamon, lead Nicole Bender (Highland Curling Club)

The competition kicked off with a team social on January 20 at the Kindersley Inn, bringing players, sponsors, and organizers together. Representatives from Viterra, SaskTel, the host committee, and CURLSASK’s Executive Director spoke at the event. A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new Women’s Provincial Championship trophy, part of CURLSASK’s Legacy Series. The trophy design mirrors the national championship trophy while embracing the new event name, the Viterra Prairie Pinnacle.

The competition was a nine-team round-robin with 4 teams advancing to the playoffs. After the round-robin, here were the standings:

Playoff Recap:

  • 1 vs 2 Game: Team Campbell (7-1) faced Team Martin (6-2), with Campbell securing a dominant 9-2 victory and advancing directly to the final.
  • 3 vs 4 Game: Team Thevenot (5-3) defeated Team Barker (5-3) 8-5, moving on to the semi-final.
  • Semi-Final: A rematch of last year’s final saw Team Martin take on Team Thevenot, this time claiming a high-scoring 15-8 win.

At 3:00pm, it was a rematch of the 1 vs 2 game with Team Campbell taking on Team Martin. This time, Team Martin took home the title of Team Saskatchewan with a 9-7 victory! The third time was the charm for Nancy Martin as she has lost the last 2 provincial finals in Estevan and Tisdale.

Congratulations to Skip Nancy Martin, third Chaelynn Stewart, second Kadriana Lott, lead Deanna Doig, alternate Colleen Ackerman from the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon. They will represent Team Saskatchewan at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario on February 14-23, 2025!
