0

The case file concerning suspended Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos has been sent back to the police from the attorney-general’s office for further investigation into the alleged rape of a woman, it was made known on Friday.

The file had been sent to the Law Office of the Republic on February 26 and later returned to the police with instructions to probe further, Law Office sources told the Cyprus News Agency.

The sources added that no time frame could be set for the conclusion of the investigation.

Phedonos, who denies all allegations, has already testified in the framework of police investigations.

The allegations resurfaced in February, when Paphos-based land developer Theodoros Aristodemou, of Aristo Developers, accused the mayor of committing the crime around ten years ago, before giving a statement to the police.

Domestic abuse allegations, meanwhile, surfaced after social media personality Ioanna Photiou, better known by her alias Annie Alexui, claimed to hold documents from the related to admissions of Phedonos’ wife Louiza Andreou to the Nicosia general hospital in 2017, which stated that she had been “beaten” by Phedonos.

Andreou has vehemently denied all accusations made against her husband.
