Los Angeles City Council OKs $4.1 million to help homeless on Arroyo Seco Parkway

The Los Angeles City Council approved on Friday, Jan. 24 a transfer of $4.1 million to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority in a bid to support homeless residents living along the Arroyo Seco Parkway in the First District.

In a unanimous vote, council members allocated the funds for outreach and housing services that will be used specifically in Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez’s district, which encompasses northeast Los Angeles neighborhoods.

There was no prior discussion.

Hernandez introduced a motion in December calling for the use of these funds. Representatives for her office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Last year, the City Administrative Office in collaboration with Hernandez’s office applied for an encampment resolution fund grant with the state.

In total, the city received $6.3 million. Of that grant, $4.1 funds will cover time-limited subsidies and housing navigation — with possibly more funding to be expended for interim housing in the future.

According to the motion, Hernandez’s office will expend no less than 50% of program funds by June 30, and the entirety of the grant by June 30, 2027.
