Battleship Iowa to host ‘Rock for Responders’ benefit concert on Feb. 27

A concert and evening to honor Los Angeles County’s first responders, the military and disaster response agencies will take place at the Battleship Iowa Museum in San Pedro on Thursday, Feb. 27.

Tickets are free for first responders and will be distributed in advance by event organizers. Blocks of tickets will be available for sponsors and veterans, with a limited number of individual tickets available for sale to the public. Tickets for the public will cost $75 to $250, and the proceeds will help support disaster recovery efforts through the Pacific Battleship Center’s designation as a nonprofit partner to the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department.

The concert is dubbed “Rock for Responders.”

The event, said Jonathan Williams, president and CEO of Pacific Battleship Center, will provide an opportunity to “recognize and celebrate the extraordinary work that our first responders dedicated in the effort to reduce the loss of life and destruction of property during the recent fires.”

Actor/comedian and U.S. Air Force veteran BJ Lange will be the master of ceremonies for the event, and there will be an appearance by ABC News’ chief national correspondent, Matt Gutman.

The entertainment, Williams said, will be an “epic classic rock concert.”

Kings of Chaos will perform, featuring rock icons Sammy Hagar, Robin Zander (who played with Cheap Trick); Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple); Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver), Orianthi (Alice Cooper), Carmine Rojas (David Bowie/Rod Stewart) and Brent Woods (Gene Simmons/Chevy Metal).

Additional artists and guests will be announced as well.

Local food trucks will also be on site.

“Rock for Responders” will also announce more details about the LA Disaster Recovery and Resilience Collective, a yet-to-be-launched program of the battleship museum that will focus on disaster recovery.

The event will take place in the parking lot area, alongside the USS Iowa, a World War II battleship that now is a museum attraction docked at 250 S. Harbor Blvd.

The event is presented by the Pacific Battleship Center, along with Princess Cruises and the Port of Los Angeles as supporting sponsors.
