Woman armed with knife is shot by police officers at Pacoima motel, LAPD says
Police officers responding to a possible kidnapping at a motel in Pacoima on Friday, Feb. 7 shot a woman they said advanced on them with a knife.
Officers arriving at the 10000 block of San Fernando Road around 9:40 a.m. Friday, found a woman — believed to be the initial caller —armed with a knife, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“The comments of the call indicated the person reporting … was being forced to stay at the location against her will,” according to a police statement.
Officers entered the motel room and met with the woman. During their investigation, she became agitated, according to the police statement, and armed herself with a knife, holding it to her neck.
“The officers exited the motel room and deployed to the threshold of the doorway,” police said.
The woman was advised to drop the weapon but allegedly refused and began advancing toward officers.
“At this time an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said in a statement. The woman was struck by gunfire, dropped the knife and fell on a bed.
Paramedics rushed her to a hospital and a knife was recovered at the scene, police said. Her current condition was not provided.
No officers were injured.
An LAPD investigation is underway.
