An estimated 4,500 people turned out Thursday night, Feb. 27, to pay tribute to first responders with a classic rock concert at the Battleship Iowa in San Pedro.
The Rock for Responders benefit concert honored local, military and disaster response agencies and also launched the L.A. Disaster Recovery and Resilience Collective, a program designed to focus on building a “more resilient Los Angeles” in the wake of the Palisades and Eaton fires.
Money raised at the concert will go toward programs to boost morale on the front lines for those serving amid crisis. Organizers did not know how much had been raised, as of early Friday afternoon.
Energizing the crowd throughout the event, which ended at 9:30 p.m., were the Kings of Chaos, a classic rock supergroup that headlined the program. Other performances were by classic rock icons Sammy Hagar, Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol and Top Gun Anthem), Phil X (Bon Jovi), Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver and The Cult), Kevin Cronin (formerly of REO Speedwagon), Orianthi (Alice Cooper and Michael Jackson), Carmine Rojas (Rod Stewart and David Bowie), Paul Trudeau (Billy Idol) and Thomas Raggi (Måneskin).
Actor/comedian and U.S. Air Force veteran BJ Lang served as master of ceremonies for the event, which also featured appearances by actors Steve Guttenberg, Ron Perlman and Allison Dunbar, as well as ABC News Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman.
The event also featured flyovers, the presentation of colors and the national anthem.
