Portimao Goodyear LMGT3 Test: Morning Notebook
Seven of the expected nine LMGT3 manufacturers have representative cars testing over two days at Portimao, joined on track by a number of remaining LMP2, LMP3 and GT teams from last weekend’s ELMS package.
The test sees the first mileage for two teams with their new steeds for 2024. Akkodis ASP finally confirmed publicly this morning ahead of the test that it is looking to gain a pair of WEC entries with Lexus, and United Autosports is rolling out the first of a pair of Mclaren 720S GT3s that it too hopes to be campaigning in the FIA WEC in 2024.
Proton Competition is hosting the Ford Mustang GT3 test and development car (chassis #001) whilst Prodrive and Heart of Racing are running the 2024 spec Aston Martin AMR Vantage GT3 Evo development car.
Audi Sport Customer Racing and Sainteloc are combining to field a solo Audi R8 LMG GT3 EVO2, the combo still hopeful of attracting a ‘yes’ for the WEC but looking too at other ACO rules options beyond Sainteloc’s Asian Le Mans Series effort.
Both BMW and Lamborghini have a pair of cars apiece at the test, as do AF Corse with the pair of Ferrari 296 GT3s run in the Michelin Le Mans Cup on test duties too.
