FSSAI calls reports of allowing 10x more MRL in herbs, spices as 'false and malicious'; says India has most 'stringent standards'

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has clarified that it allows 10 times more pesticide residue levels in herbs and spices, stating that it has one of the most stringent standards of Maximum Residue Levels (MRL) of pesticides. The MRLs of pesticides are fixed differently for different food commodities based on their risk assessments. India has registered over 295 pesticides, with 139 approved for use in spices alone.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has praised the Indian Navy's operations in foreign waters, highlighting its ability to assist merchant ships threatened by pirates. He also mentioned the government's readiness to consider the Navy's proposal for a second aircraft carrier, the IAC-II, with a displacement of 45,000 tonnes and estimated cost of around Rs 40,000 crore. Singh emphasized the importance of India becoming self-reliant in the defence sector and set a target of increasing defence exports to Rs 50,000 crore in the next five-six years.

Pakistan's debut lunar satellite mission was launched Friday on board China's first lunar probe mission to collect samples from the far side of the Moon. The 53-day-long Chang'e-6 mission will collect samples for the first time from the far side of the moon and bring them for scientific studies. This is the first time that China has included an orbiter from its all-weather ally Pakistan in its moon mission.
