External debt up 6 per cent to $663 billion as of March 2024

In March 2024, India's external debt reached $663.8 billion, showing a $39.7 billion increase from the previous year. The valuation effect and a decline in short-term debt share contributed to this change, with debt service ratio rising to 6.7% of current receipts. Additionally, the ratio of international financial assets to liabilities increased to 74.0%.

Speaking at the international workshop on GNSS-based electronic toll collection in India, union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said since commercial vehicles including trucks account for 75% of annual toll revenue it is important that the new system is implemented on commercial vehicles first. India’s toll collection stood at Rs 64,809.86 crore in 2023-24 as against Rs 48,028.22 crore in 2022-23, an increase of 34.9%.

Broadcasters cannot transfer operations of TV channels to third party, warns MIB

In an advisory on Tuesday, the ministry directed all permitted broadcasters to follow the policy guidelines in letter and spirit by ensuring that the operations and core functions of the channel are managed by the permission holder only. "Therefore, it is hereby clarified that the letting of the channels to any third party, including the group entities, without the prior permission of the ministry is not allowed as per the existing policy guidelines," the MIB advisory reads.
