CBI court issues NBW against Vijay Mallya in loan default case linked to Indian Overseas Bank

A Mumbai special court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya in a Rs 180-crore loan default case linked to Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). The CBI, probing the case, claims Mallya caused a wrongful loss of over Rs 180 crore to the government-run bank by "wilfully" defaulting in payments. Mallya, who has been declared a fugitive economic offender in a money laundering case, currently resides in London and the Indian government is seeking his extradition.



India raises windfall tax on petroleum crude

The Indian government has increased the windfall tax on petroleum crude to Rs 6,000 per metric ton from Rs 3,250, effective July 2, as stated in a notification issued on Monday. This tax is reviewed every two weeks. In July 2022, India began taxing crude oil production and the export of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel.

NCLT's Mumbai bench had directed the initiation of proceedings over Union Bank plea. NCLAT adjourned the hearing to July 18 and appointed Devendra Mehta as resolution professional. Wadhawan, guarantor of DHFL loans, faced insolvency proceedings in November 2019. DHFL acquired by Piramal Capital for Rs 34,250 crore, creditors recover Rs 38,000 crore.

Adequate coal stock available, can meet 18.5 days' requirements of thermal power plants: Government

The Centre said that there is sufficient coal reserves for domestic thermal power plants, with stocks at 44.46 million tonnes lasting 18.5 days at current consumption rates, a 33 per cent increase from last year. Coal production increased by 10.58 per cent in the June quarter. Measures have been taken to ensure 98.67 MT stock availability at mines, representing a 33.5 per cent increase from last year. Coordination between coal, railways, and power ministries aims to maintain high coal stock levels at power plants.

Assam's Namrup to get two nano urea plants: Sarbananda Sonowal
