Taiwan will see a record high defence budget of T$647 billion next year to bolster its self-reliance and strengthen cooperation with democratic allies, President Lai Ching-te stated. China, claiming Taiwan as its territory, has escalated its military pressure. Lai has been targeted by Beijing since taking office, including war games conducted near Taiwan.
