Birkenstock, a German footwear brand known for its comfortable and stylish sandals, sought to prevent three competitors from selling similar products by claiming copyright protection. The company said that its sandals should be recognised as works of art, granting them stronger legal protection. But Germany’s Federal Court of Justice ruled against Birkenstock, stating that its designs do not qualify for copyright protection.
