Bob Uecker's final Brewers call before his death was so heartbreaking

0

Legendary Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker died on Thursday at the age of 90 after a long battle with cancer. Uecker, who spent 54 years as a broadcaster for Milwaukee, was on the call for the Brewers’ season-ending loss to the Mets.

And given the news of his passing, the call was absolutely heartbreaking.

The Mets went into the ninth inning down two runs and facing elimination in the NL wild-card series, but Pete Alonso flipped the game with a three-run home run to put New York ahead. Starling Marte added an insurance run, and the Brewers’ season ended the following half inning.

It was the kind of collapse that would stick with any Brewers fan, and Uecker summed it up perfectly in what would be his final call.

He said:

“Well, New York, down. They did it. And ‘The Crew’ will will have it end here tonight. … I’m telling you. That one had some sting on it.”

Baseball won’t be the same without him.
