The Eagles are your new Super Bowl favorites, for now
The Philadelphia Eagles are the new favorites to win Super Bowl LIX at sportsbooks, supplanting the Detroit Lions who were stunned by the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
Philadelphia’s +180 odds at BetMGM are followed by the Kansas City Chiefs at +240, Buffalo Bills at +250 and Commanders at +700.
Now, the Eagles will look to avoid the same fate as the Lions, who lost as two-score favorites over Washington. Philadelphia is favored by 6.5 points over its division rival in the NFC Championship game.
Even if the Eagles prevail, they aren’t likely to remain favorites once the Super Bowl matchup is determined. They’re merely keeping the seat warm for whichever AFC team advances. The Chiefs and Bills currently hold longer odds because it’s less certain which will advance with KC favored by just 1.5 points in the AFC Championship. But the team that does move on will likely enter the Super Bowl as a favorite over Philadelphia.
FanDuel already has hypothetical odds for each potential Super Bowl matchup, and the Bills and Chiefs both are listed as 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles. They’re each 4.5-point favorites over the Commanders. Additionally, Super Bowl MVP odds at BetMGM favor Patrick Mahomes (+275) and Josh Allen (+300) before the first two Eagles come up; Saquon Barkley (+400) and Jalen Hurts (+500).
Of course, injuries and other unexpected events in the conference championship games could change expectations. But in all likelihood, this week will be the last chance bettors have to get the Chiefs or Bills at plus-odds to win the Super Bowl.
