Is Pete Carroll the oldest NFL coach now that he's with the Raiders?

0

Pete Carroll is back in the NFL two years after the Seattle Seahawks cut ties with their head coach of more than a decade.

The Las Vegas Raiders are bringing the 73-year-old in to replace Antonio Pierce as the head coach in the desert after striking out on Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn and flirting with Deion Sanders.

Which means the Super Bowl champion Carroll is now the oldest head coach in the league by far. The San Francisco native will turn 74 in September when the 2025 NFL season begins. The next-oldest coach, Andy Reid, will turn 67 in March — assuming he returns to the Chiefs for another year.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Carroll signed a three-year deal, which would see Carroll at 77 years old by the end of his term. When the coach officially takes the field for his first game with the Raiders, he will be the oldest coach in NFL history, surpassing Romeo Crennel, who led the Houston Texans as interim head coach at 73 years and 199 days.
