Mic'd-up video showed how surprised Eagles and Commanders players were to learn that refs could award a TD

0

When the Eagles lined up inside the two-yard line against the Commanders, everyone in the stadium knew that the Tush Push was coming. It’s their go-to play at the goal line, after all. And in an effort to stop the Eagles, Frankie Luvu took the most unconventional approach to defending the Tush Push.

He taught everyone about a seldomly used NFL rule in the process. Like, even Eagles and Commanders players had no idea it existed.

Luvu repeatedly jumped over the line before the snap, knowing that he’d either time up the snap perfectly or just get hit with an encroachment penalty of half the distance. But after he did that a second time, the officials warned Washington that they could award the Eagles a touchdown.

The cited rule was called a “palpably unfair act.” And mic’d-up video from NFL Films showed just how surprised the players were to learn that this was an actual thing that exists.

Jayden Daniels said on the bench confusedly, “Award a score? You can give them a touchdown?”

It was news to all of us.

Though it didn’t come to that as the Eagles scored on the Tush Push after the warning, it was still hilarious to think about.
