Elephant shows hippo who's boss in animated scene at watering hole
When a bull elephant and hippo meet in a watering hole, it’s not always a peaceful coexistence.
In the accompanying footage, captured by Scott Hyman in Botswana, South Africa, the much larger elephant is shown facing down the hippo and thrashing the water, seemingly to clear the area.
The elephant then stares down the fleeing hippo, briefly, before rolling around like a kid playing in a bathtub.
“Oh my! What a fascinating sight to see! Truly awesome encounter,” reads one of the top comments.
In the size pecking order on the African plains, elephants are the largest mammas, followed by rhinos, then hippos.
Hyman stated that he captured the animated scene this month on the Vumbura Plains. (Click here if video player doesn’t appear below.)
