The Spurs are reportedly 'optimistic' Victor Wembanyama will return next season after blood clot scare
NBA fans were dealt some terrifying news when they learned Victor Wembanyama will unfortunately miss the remainder of the season.
The San Antonio Spurs star big man was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis in right shoulder. This is a form of a blood clot and a majorly significant cause for concern.
However, per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Spurs believe this is an “isolated” condition. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that San Antonio is “optimistic” that Wembanyama will make a full recovery.

MacMahon noted that the big man is expected to return to the court by the beginning of next season.
Additionally, The Athletic’s Sam Amick also reported that the Spurs are “very confident” that Wembanyama will be ready for next season as well.

This is especially encouraging as fans wonder when they will see the French star back on the court.
San Antonio Express-News reporter Tom Osborn also clarified that the Spurs do not believe this will impact Wembanyama’s long-term health.
According to San Antonio Express-News reporter Mike Finger, this is “not as serious” as the health issue the led to the Chris Bosh early retirement.

As noted by NBA injury expert Jeff Stotts, when Brandon Ingram suffered from a similar condition, he only missed the final 19 games of the 2018-19 regular season.
Wembanyama will likely need to pass the NBA’s Fitness-to-Play panel before he can return to action. But as of right now, it sounds like this health scare is not the worst case scenario.
