P.K. Subban and Mark Messier went bonkers over Connor McDavid's 4 Nations Championship OT winner
You can put two Canadians on ESPN’s Team USA’s 4 Nations Face-Off broadcast, but you can’t make them excited for the red, white and blue.
As Canada defeated the United States, 3-2, in an epic overtime game during the inaugural NHL tournament’s championship bout, former hockey greats P.K. Subban and Mark Messier couldn’t help but let their civic pride overtake them while watching Connor McDavid score the game-winner from the press box in Boston on Thursday night.
CANADA’S VICTORY, VISUALIZED: Here are 25 photos of the epic overtime matchup.
Subban, of course, won gold as a member of Canada’s national team at the 2014 Sochi Olympics — as well as back-to-back gold medals during the World Junior Championship in 2008-09 — while Messier was part of Team Canada for three consecutive Canada Cup gold medals and two silver medals in the World Championship and World Cup, respectively.
So it really shouldn’t be a surprise that the two went wild when Canada clinched another victory on U.S. soil after losing in Montreal only days earlier.
Check out this video of the moment McDavid netted his game-winner synced up with Subban’s reaction.

That right there is a perfect microcosm of how successful this tournament was. The NHL created this out of thin air to replace its All-Star Game and instantly delivered an exhibition that had all the intensity of the Olympics.
Speaking of which, we cannot wait for the winter games next season when NHL players will once again skate for their countries.
The Americans won’t forget the sting of this loss, either.
