Wanders in Whitby, England

Our next stop on our trip was the beautiful and picturesque seaside city of Whitby. Once home to big fishing and whaling fleets is still has a sheltered harbour and now look as though a thriving lobster industry. The famous seaman, Captain Cook, sailed from Whitby and the town is featured in the Bram Stoker novel Dracula. The towns oldest and most prominent feature is the ruins of the old abbey on the east cliffs above the River Esk.

We enjoyed some cold beverages at the Whitby Brewery, conveniently located at the top of the 199 stairs to visit the Abbey ruins. I was fortunate to meet Dracula himself on a narrow side street when we returned down to the city level.
