Hailee Steinfeld Explains Why She Cut Her Hair Into a Bob

Hailee Steinfeld is sharing some details about her new ‘do!

Back in June, the 27-year-old Dickinson actress surprised fans by debuting her new bob haircut.

“hi my loves!!! it’s been a minute. life is so great. i’ll fill you in on all the BS details soon…” Hailee wrote along with a selfie of her shorter hair on Instagram.

In a new interview, Hailee explained why she decided to cut her hair.

Keep reading to find out more…“I was going through old photos with my mom, and there’s a photo of me — I’m not kidding, I have to be nine or 10 months old in this photo — and my mom had clipped one of her ponytail [extensions] to my head,” Hailee recalled to People. “So at 10 months, this girl had long hair. I’ve never had short hair like this.”

Hailee went on to say that for years, one of the only changes she made to her hair was having bangs every now and then.

“That started out great — did not end up great,” Hailee said. “I love bangs so much, and it breaks my heart to admit to myself that I don’t believe they’re for me.”

Hailee also pointed out that she’s dabbled with changing up her hair color over the years, which she called a “fun slippery slope.”

“What can I do with my hair that is not cutting bangs, that’s not coloring it?” Hailee debated for years, but said she still wasn’t ready for a cut yet.

“I finally got to a point where I was like, ‘Okay, I’m ready for some change.’ I love my long hair, but I’m carrying it around like it’s dead weight now,” Hailee explained. “And I wear it up more than I wear it down and I’m constantly trying to get it out of my way. Why don’t I just try something new?”

Hailee then called hair stylist Mara Roszak to give her the cut, and eventually Mara inched her way up, cutting Hailee‘s hair into a lob. However, Hailee was ready to go even shorter.

“Once you get the bug it’s game over,” Hailee said, adding that she loved the way her hair turned out.

“Who knows what happens from here,” she added.
