Billy Crystal Reveals His First Impressions of Late Night Hosts at Emmy Awards 2024, They All Have 1 Thing In Common

Billy Crystal hit the stage at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The 76-year-old comedian and actor was on hand to present the award for Outstanding Talk Series, which featured late night talk shows.

During his introduction, he shared his first impressions with each of the hosts of the nominated shows, and they had something in common.

“The category I get to present is Outstanding Talk Series, and it’s a very special one to me because I realized the other day it’s almost 50 years since I went on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson for the very first time,” Billy started out.

After sharing a story about that appearance, he noted that he kept a diary throughout his career with notes from appearances on the nominated shows. He then read off his thoughts after his first time on the shows.

“The Daily Show, had a great time with Jon [Stewart]. Jon said, ‘Let’s meet after and we’ll have dinner right after the show.’ I waited and he was gone. Late Night with Seth Meyers, terrific and demure, terrific interviewer. He said, ‘Let’s go to the Pebble Bar and have a drink,’ and I waited, and they said he had gone home,” Billy shared.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live. Had a fantastic time with Jimmy, he’s so easy to talk to. He said, ‘Meet me at my restaurant, we’ll have dinner.’ So I went and Guillermo showed up. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Brilliant guy, but I wonder if he’s ever seen himself naked,” he continued. “I didn’t say these were funny, I said these were first impressions of the show. I’ve enjoyed all of them.”

He then joked, “Ladies and gentlemen, the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, and whoever wins, if you want to have dinner after the show, I’ll wait.”

The award went to The Daily Show.
