Jamie Foxx Reveals His 2023 Medical Emergency Was a Brain Bleed That Led to a Stroke
Jamie Foxx has confirmed what his 2023 medical emergency event really was: a brain bleed that resulted in a stroke.
The 56-year-old actor was in Atlanta, Georgia to film his Netflix movie Back in Action when the stroke happened, but at the time, the public was only told that he had suffered a medical event.
In his Netflix special that was just released, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, he revealed what happened that day and in the following days.

“April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for a aspirin. I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f— to do. Before I could get the aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don’t remember 20 days,” Jamie said.
The first doctor he saw gave him a steroid shot and sent him home. “What the f— is that? I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star,” Jamie quipped about that doctor.
His sister Deidra Dixon knew that Jamie was in a medical emergency and took him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
“Y’all saved my life just 400 yards away from here in Piedmont Hospital. They put me back together again,” he said. “[My sister] didn’t know anything about Piedmont Hospital, but she had a hunch that some angels [were] in there.”
About what the doctors said, Jamie recalled, “He said, ‘He’s having a brain bleed that has led to a stroke. If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.’” His sister “knelt down outside the operating room and prayed the whole time” he was in surgery.
About being unconscious, Jamie said, “Your life doesn’t flash before your face. It was kind of oddly peaceful. I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light. I was in that tunnel, though. It was hot in that tunnel. S—, am I going to the wrong place in this mother——? Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.’”
Here’s something else Jamie shared that the doctors said about the brain bleed: “We didn’t find where it was coming from, but he is having a stroke. He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be he worst year of his life.’ That’s what it was Atlanta. You finally got the story. You saved my life.”
He continued, “20 days I don’t remember, but on May 4th I woke up [clicks fingers], and when I woke up I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk, in a wheelchair, and I was like, ‘Why the f— am I in a wheelchair?’ I’m just coming out of s—.”
Earlier this year, Jamie explained why he hadn’t shared more details about his medical emergency.
