Kevin McHale addressed those rumors about costars Lea Michele and Naya Rivera feuding on the set of Glee.

If you were unaware, there were rumors that the actresses, who played Rachel Berry and Santana Lopez, respectively, had bad blood on the set of the hit television show. Naya even addressed the rumors in 2019.

During a recent episode of his And That’s What You Really Missed podcast with Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin revisited an episode where Santana and Rachel feuded over the spotlight. He referred to the plot as “self-referential” and had more to say about the situation.

“I don’t see how it was not intentional that they’re going at it in this episode in such a specific way when there were, like, rumors out in the world that they didn’t get along,” Kevin mused, via People. “And, you know, they would have loved that s-it. Like, Naya and Lea were probably like, ‘Yeah, let’s do this.’ Because all those things were always blown out of proportion and not correct.”

The actor also said that the characters’ bad blood was a form of “fan service” since everyone was buying into the rumors about Lea and Naya at the time.

“Oh, you think they hate each other? Let’s give it to you. And it works because they’re also playing into it. It’s like they’re in on the gag of it all,” he said.

Lea paid tribute to Naya in a touching way on the one-year anniversary of her tragic death.
