Nintendo Switch 2 Announced, Release Window Revealed
Nintendo has finally announced the Nintendo Switch 2!
The new console appears to be larger and more powerful than the original Nintendo Switch, as revealed in a teaser trailer on Thursday (January 16).
Nintendo did not announce a release date or price for the new console, but they did reveal a 2025 release window. They also only showed only one game on the Switch 2, which is a new Mario Kart game.

“Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date. Nintendo Switch Online members can continue using the service on Nintendo Switch 2,” the official website says.
The console is a hybrid console, playable both in portable mode and on TV via the use of a dock, with detachable Joy-Con controllers. Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible with both physical and digital games from the original Switch. The Joy-Cons appear to be connected magnetically to the console, along with a U-shaped kickstand. It will also feature a second USB-C port and a new button on the right Joy-Con, via Polygon.
Nintendo said it plans to reveal more about the Switch 2 in a dedicated Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
