Novak Djokovic Explains Why He Skipped Post-Match Interview at Australian Open 2025

Novak Djokovic is explaining his decision to skip a traditional interview.

The 37-year-old tennis player posted an explanation video on social media after he skipped the post-game interview after defeating Jiri Lehecka at the 2025 Australian Open on Sunday (January 19) at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion only shared words of gratitude to fans in his post-match interview with Jim Courier without answering any questions. Fans booed him for leaving so quickly, but it turns out that it had to do with him being offended by broadcaster Tony Jones.

The Australian reporter mocked Serbian tennis fans during a live broadcast and also slammed Novak, saying to them: “Novak is overrated … Novak‘s a has-been … Novak, kick him out… I am glad that they can’t hear me.”

In a video, Novak explained his decision.

“I was hoping he was going to apologize in public, which he hasn’t done yet. Neither did Channel 9. So, that’s the only reason why I didn’t do the interview. It was, of course, not a great feeling for me and it was quite awkward on the court,” he said.

“Jim Courier was the one who came out. I have tremendous respect for him, and I always love speaking to Jim. And I know a lot of people wanted to hear me speak, so I apologize to everyone being in the stadium and not being able to hear me speak on TV as well,” he continued.

“But that’s the main reason, and I have to stand by my decision and hold this stance until something is done. I leave it to Channel 9, and hopefully, something is done before the next match,” he said.
