USA's Madison Keys Wins Australian Open, Upsets Tennis #1 Aryna Sabalenka
Madison Keys is a Grand Slam winner!
The 29-year-old American upset the world #1 Aryna Sabalenka in three thrilling sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday (January 25).
The No. 19 seed first reached the AO semifinals at age 19. “Thank you to everyone who came out and cheered the last two weeks,” the recently married tennis star shared. “I always feel so at home here. I made very first Grand Slam semi final here in Melbourne, so to now have won my first Grand Slam in the same place means the absolute world to me.”
Aryna was on her way to winning a third straight title but after two hours and two minutes, Madison clinched the women’s title on Rod Laver Arena. In the semis, Madison beat out the world #2 Iga Swiatek.
This isn’t the first Madison-Aryna showdown. During the 2023 US Open semifinal, the Belarusian battled past the American also in three sets: 0-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (10-5).
