Trace Cyrus Says Dad Billy Ray Cyrus is Threatening Legal Action After Public Letter Expressing Concern
Trace Cyrus said that his dad Billy Ray Cyrus is threatening to take legal action after he shared an open letter expressing concern for his health and wellbeing.
Earlier this week, the 35-year-old musician took to social media to reveal that he and his sisters – Miley, Brandi and Noah Cyrus – were worried about the 63-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” star.
The letter came after Billy Ray seemed to struggle through a performance at Donald Trump‘s inauguration, which he blamed on malfunctioning equipment.
On Saturday (January 25), Trace provided an update and responded to his dad’s alleged threat.

“For all of you wondering no I still haven’t heard from my dad. He did contact a family member to let me know he’s taking legal action against me for encouraging him to get help,” Trace wrote on his Instagram story.
He continued, writing, “Dad I live 30 minutes away from you. You could’ve just come & talked to me like a man.”
“Meant every word I said. It’s the truth,” he wrote while resharing the original post.
Trace shared more photos and memories of time spent with Billy Ray, including photos from Father’s Day 2022, which he described as “the last good day I had with my dad.”
In another post, he directly called his dad out for his response.
“Dad my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don’t want to put your business out there like that. But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment I can assure you. You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not. Get help.”
Trace tagged his father’s Instagram account in the post so that it would go directly to him.
Billy Ray has not publicly addressed Trace‘s letter. However, he announced a new project with another of his children.
The country music star’s ex-wife also weighed in on the situation.
