'Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' Movie at Netflix Loses Director - Read Her Exit Comments

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is one of the most popular books in recent years and Netflix announced a movie adaptation of the novel back in 2023.

Russian Doll co-creator and The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland was attached to direct the film, but she has announced that she is no longer attached to the project.

Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the New York Times bestselling novel is about a reclusive, iconic Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo, who enlists unknown reporter Monique Grant to write her tell-all book, which will chronicle her life story and rise to fame during the golden age of Hollywood.

Leslye told Variety, “I am no longer working on that project. I remain a huge, huge fan of the book and of the people working on it. It’s one of those things where you know it’s going to be a huge success. I thought, ‘Damn it. It’s not going to work out with me involved in it, but it is going to be wildly successful.’ It is the type of book that if I’d read it in my twenties, I would have had a completely different life. It’s so beautifully done.”
