Casting Thor - 9 Actors Who Competed With Chris Hemsworth to Play Marvel's God of Thunder (He Said His Initial Audition 'Sucked')
Thor is a fan-favorite character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that’s thanks in large part to Chris Hemsworth‘s portrayal of the iconic god of thunder.
His casting is one of many examples of Marvel execs choosing the exact right person for the job. However, there was a lot of interest in bringing Thor to life. To get the part, Chris had to compete with some very big stars.
After making his debut in 2011′s Thor, the 40-year-old actor played the iconic hero in multiple movies over the years. His most recent movie in the franchise was 2022′s Thor: Love and Thunder, though he made a brief cameo in 2024′s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Chris quite simply is Thor now. But he had to beat out 10 other actors to land the role. The list includes some people who he is very close to.
Interestingly, one of Chris‘ competitors wound up making his own MCU debut alongside him in Thor. Others have recalled suiting up for auditions. Chris himself admitted that he thought that someone else was going to be cast in the role.
