Kalra Mosley Explains Why She Departed Trans Role on 'Bold & the Beautiful'
Karla Mosley opened up about her departure from The Bold and the Beautiful.
The 43-year-old actress made history during her stint on the show between 2013 and 2019. She played Maya Avant, who was one of the first transgender characters to appear in a soap opera.
Her character came out as trans in 2015, which was the same year that Caitlyn Jenner came out.
She reflected on the importance of the role and why she eventually left it in a new interview.

“When my boss asked me if I would do this story, I first was going to say no because it felt inappropriate for me to play that role as a cis woman,” Karla told People. “I do identify as queer, but I’m not transgender.”
She recalled her friends telling her that “this story won’t be told” unless she agreed to front it.
Karla recognized the importance of the role. However, she also said that a time came when she had to step away.
“At a certain point it really became truly inappropriate for me to play that role,” she explained, adding that she would not play another trans role in the future. “That’s why I stepped away from it.”
