John Lithgow Reveals Why He Said 'Yes' to Dumbledore in 'Harry Potter' Series, Makes Surprise 'Dexter' Reboot Announcement
John Lithgow gave an interview where he made two revelations: firstly, he explained why he decided to take on the role of Albus Dumbledore in the HBO Harry Potter series, and second, he revealed he’ll be making a cameo in the Dexter series!
The 79-year-old actor said when asked why he took on the role of the Hogwards Headmaster, “My big question to them was, ‘What is new about this? Why do more with the canon when it’s already been done so well?’ They just made it all sound very new.”

“As the kids grew older [in the books], you learn more and more about Dumbledore, and he became a much more surprising, complicated character. They have described this to me, and I’ve got to discover it for myself and make it my own,” he added to Variety.
In addition, he revealed he’ll return as the infamous Trinity killer in the new Michael C. Hall Dexter show.
“I just went back to do a day. They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of ‘Dexter.’ And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed,” he said.
