Katie Thurston Gives Update on Cancer Diagnosis, Explains Why She's No Longer Undergoing Chemotherapy
Katie Thurston gives an update on her breast cancer journey.
The 34-year-old The Bachelorette alum revealed to fans on Thursday (April 10) that she is no longer undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
“Imagine you are 24 hours away from starting your first chemotherapy treatment, you have a port installed, you have a chemo bag ready to go, and then you get a call from your doctor that says, ‘Hold on,’” she said in an Instagram video.

Katie then explained that she was originally diagnosed with triple positive stage three breast cancer. However, once she transferred care, she was then diagnosed with stage four cancer, but biopsies confirmed that she is actually HER2-negative.
This apparently allows Katie to undergo an “alternative treatment plan” that involves hormone blocking therapy.
“Basically we have a cookbook of recipes to help fight this. And right now, I’m on recipe number one. The current approach that we’re taking is going to give me the best chance at long-term control with less side effects,” she said, before urging others in similar situations to get second opinions.
“Could I need chemo in the future? Maybe. If this treatment stops working or if the cancer grows again, it’s an option we’ll revisit. We will closely monitor the treatment plan and make sure it’s working for my body,” she also wrote in the caption.
Katie first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis back in February. A month later, she confirmed that it had spread to her liver, putting her at stage four.
If you didn’t see, last month, Katie and comedian Jeff Arcuri tied the knot in an intimate ceremony.
