Keira Knightley Explains Why Her Daughters Aren't Allowed on Social Media

Keira Knightley is opening up about how she handles technology and social media as a parent.

During an appearance on BBC Radio 4 this week, the 40-year-old Atonement actress shared that she and her husband, musician James Righton, keep their daughters, Edie, 10, and Delilah, 6, off social media entirely.

“I find it very terrifying because they’re unregulated spaces,” Keira said, explaining that she wants to protect her children from environments she can’t monitor.

“In our house, we’ve got a no social media thing. They’re not allowed on devices if we can’t see what they’re looking at.”

The Woman in Cabin 10 star admitted she isn’t sure how long that rule will last, given how connected kids are today, but said her daughters’ school has helped by promoting a “social media-free” childhood among parents.

Most families at the school follow similar boundaries, she added, though not everyone agrees on the issue. The actress also shared that she’d “love it if some regulation came in so it wasn’t all put on the parents.”
