0

Black Phone 2 is now playing in theaters and as the follow-up to the haunting 2021 film The Black Phone, fans are eager to find out just how scary its sequel really is.

Director and writer duo Scott Derrickson and Robert C. Cargill returned for this movie, so you already know it’s as terrifying—if not more so—than the first one.

Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Jeremy Davies, and Madeleine McGraw reprised their roles.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Bad dreams haunt 15-year-old Gwen as she receives calls from the black phone and sees disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp. Accompanied by her brother, Finn, they head to the camp to solve the mystery, only to confront the Grabber — a killer who’s grown even more powerful in death.”

How scary is Black Phone 2?

Black Phone 2 was rated R for strong violent content, gore, teen drug use, and language.

The most disturbing element for many viewers will likely be the depiction of children in distress. The main antagonist, the Grabber, is a serial killer who targets and brutally murders kids.

Characters are attacked with weapons, have body parts ripped off, heads bashed in, and at least one child is mutilated graphically on-screen. While some of the violence occurs off-screen, there’s still plenty the audience will witness. The gore and intensity are both heightened compared to the first film. There’s no sexual content or nudity.

Just Jared Scare Rating: 8 out of 10
