0

Talamasca: The Secret Order is making its debut tonight (Sunday, October 26) at 9 p.m. ET on AMC with two episodes!

Here’s a plot summary: “This new chapter in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe follows Guy Anatole as he joins the clandestine world of the Talamasca, an international spy agency for immortals, and uncovers his family’s hidden ties to the supernatural world.”

The show stars Nicholas Denton as Guy Anatole, Céline Buckens as Doris, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Olive, William Fichtner as Jasper, and Elizabeth McGovern as Helen.

Of course, fans might be curious to know what critics think of the new series.

Talamasca: The Secret Order currently has a 62% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

THR says: “The twists and turns and red herrings and dropped subplots do lead, eventually, to a pretty good finale, with a grand reveal that’s everything you hope one will be — elegant yet surprising, linking together several seemingly disparate threads while shaking up the board in ways that could pay off in seasons to come.”

Variety says: “The underwhelming entries in the Immortal Universe now outnumber the exciting ones. Though Talamasca ends with enough balls in the air that a Season 2 seems assured, no additional concepts have been ordered to series. Before that happens, some introspection might be in order as to why neither Mayfair nor Talamasca has measured up to the operatic thrills of Interview. Until then, fans will just have to wait for The Vampire Lestat.”

AV Club says: “Talamasca will feed that hunger for more of what Interview and Mayfair conjured up, while distinctly living in its own corner of the universe. Will the consequences of the first season come to bear in the other series? Only time will tell. For now, Talamasca and the larger Immortal Universe are asking audiences to simply do what the organization has done for centuries: Watch and come back for more.”

The Wrap says: “As its own thing, too, there is a lot to enjoy, especially if you’re in the market for a new procedural that isn’t about lawyers or naval investigators. If AMC wants to keep this universe immortal then it needs to let its many series be as odd and ambitious as the source material. For a show not rooted in a prior narrative, Talamasca seems confident that it can pull that off.”

Bloody Disgusting says: “Talamasca lacks the same juice as Interview with the Vampire. It does, however, frequently trump what’s going on in Mayfair Witches. It’s a series that has so much room to grow, especially now that the heavy lifting of the first season is out of the way and there’s a foundation for this universe that can be built upon.”
