Zohran Mamdani Wins New York City Mayoral Election, Making History While Defeating Andrew Cuomo
Zohran Mamdani is projected to be the winner of the New York City mayoral election, The Hill reports.
The 34-year-old politician is making history as the city’s first Muslim mayor and first Millennial mayor. He is also the first democratic socialist mayor of the city.
Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an Independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa also was in the race, but didn’t get much traction.

As of 9:38pm with 72% of the votes reported, Mamdani had 50.5% of the votes with Cuomo in second place with 41.4% and Sliwa in third place with 7.5%.
