Why a 'Wicked: For Good' Post-Credits Scene Wasn't Needed & What The Future Looks Like
The new movie Wicked: For Good is now in theaters and it’s expected to smash records at the box office around the world.
The movie musical is based on the Broadway show Wicked and features material from the second act of the show, along with two new songs and an expanded storyline for Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande).
Over the years, it has become standard for movie franchises to include extra scenes during the credits roll to tease future installments or just give fans some bonus content.

Wicked: For Good does not have a post-credits scene, so you can feel free to leave the theater once the movie has ended without worrying about missing anything.
Why doesn’t it?!
Well, it would not make sense for this film to have one!
Wicked: For Good is the second half of a two-part story and ends with a satisfying conclusion. At the moment, there are no plans to continue the story and there’s nothing else to tease.
The movie does end with a moment that almost felt like it would be something included in a traditional end credits scene though.
In the final moments of the movie, Glinda takes the Grimmerie into the tower of the Wizard’s castle where “Defying Gravity” happened in the first movie. While looking at the book, it comes to life for Glinda, seemingly signaling that she now has magical powers. The most major difference for the ending from the Broadway show vs. the movie is the added context into Glinda’s future with the Grimmerie opening for her at the end of the film. In the Broadway musical, while singing the finale with Elphaba, Glinda is in her bubble and flying over Oz while holding the Grimmerie, but we never see the book open for her.
So, will Wicked 3 ever happen?
Wicked and Wicked: For Good were directly adapted from the Broadway musical and it’s unclear where a third movie might go if one were to be made. “Wicked” author Gregory Maguire has written several sequels, so they could potentially pull from there, or go in an entirely different direction.
Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz is opening up about his ideas for a third movie, which he says he’s already discussing with screenwriter Winnie Holzman.

“If there were a right idea, but I’m just not sure that that right idea exists,” Schwartz told The Ankler. “What I will tell you without giving away too much is that Winnie Holzman (the original Wicked book writer and film’s co-screenwriter) and I are doing some work right now on ideas that aren’t a sequel to Wicked, because I think the Glinda and Elphaba story feels complete — but there are other aspects that could be explored. Gregory Maguire, the original Wicked novelist, has several books, for example. But there’s another idea that Winnie and I are discussing: not a sequel, but an adjunct. Let me put it that way.”
So, it sounds like we won’t see Ariana and Cynthia back as Glinda and Elphaba, but we might get to see more of Oz.
He added, “If someone could think of a continuation of the story that seemed to have a justification beyond simply making money, of course. As far as right now, no one has yet presented an idea that I’ve heard that would justify such a thing.”
