Hilary Duff Addresses Speculation Her New Song 'Mature' Is About Leonardo DiCaprio
Hilary Duff is finally speaking out about the subject of her comeback single “Mature.”
The 38-year-old entertainer dropped the song earlier this month and fans were quick to dissect the lyrics to figure out who she was singing about.
Many have taken parts of the lyrics and come to the conclusion that the track, which will be featured on her upcoming album, is about Leonardo DiCaprio!

“The song is about reflecting on your past and coming to terms with the choices you’ve made, but without being too hard on yourself,” Hilary previously told Vogue.
“It is definitely about a brief experience that I had in my—a long, long time ago [laughs]. But it is not totally autobiographical. I took a few artistic liberties just to make the song work structurally, but the gist is the gist,” she added. “I was looking back on this relationship and thinking about whether this guy had a habit of dating younger women or whether I was ‘special.’ The whole experience was super therapeutic to write about, but being so vulnerable through your music can be really scary.”
So, how does this connect to Leo?
At the very start of the song, she mentions, “Very Leo of you with your Scorpio touch,” and “Bet she’s so impressed by your Basquiat.”
Leonardo is well known to seemingly only date younger women, and while his nickname is Leo, his horoscope sign is Scorpio. He is also a fan of the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Later in the song, Hilary also mentions leaving her car at Carbon Beach, which is located in Malibu, Calif., where Leo has a house.
After all the speculation went rampant on social media, Hilary‘s husband, Matthew Koma, who co-wrote the song, fanned the flames by posting a meme of Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic holding on to the “Mature” artwork.
This past week, Hilary actually called in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest and was asked about the subject of the song and if it was about Leo!
“First of all, we’re getting the biggest kick out of the speculations,” she said. “It’s honestly, it’s thrilling. It’s 100% thrilling and the internet is such a funny place. I’m obsessed with everyone and I’m seeing all the videos.”
“No, you can’t take anything that Matthew posts seriously. He’s the biggest troll on the planet Earth,” Hilary continued about her hubby’s Leo post. “He will lead everybody down all the roads and have the most fun doing it.”
However, she still remained coy about who the song is really about.
“So, not confirming, not denying anything here,” she said.
If you missed it, Hilary just announced the title and release date, and revealed the cover art for her new album!
