'Squid Game: The Challenge' Season 1 Winner Mai Whelan Thinks Season 2 Game Was Scripted: 'That Is So Lame'
Squid Game: The Challenge season 1 winner Mai Whelan has strong opinions on the show’s second season, specifically the game “Mingle” that was played in the fourth episode.
The reality star was on a recent episode of the Reality Alert podcast where she shared her feelings on the game and how it panned out on the show.
For those who need a refresher, “Mingle” forced the contestants to stand on a huge spinning platform adorned with colorful doors. When the platform stopped, a number was called out and that exact number of players had to scramble into one room together. If they ended up outside or in a room with too many—or too few people—they were eliminated.

It sounds simple, but it turned into chaos fast, to the point that the remaining players banded together and chose not to play anymore. Everyone paired off and the Front Man arrived to “reward” them all with gifts to commend their “bravery” for revolting.
But upon opening their gift boxes, the contestants discovered a bag of marbles, meaning each pair would now be going head-to-head in an even more intense game.
Mai thinks the “revolt” and what followed was scripted. She questioned how they could decide to not play the game they signed up for, calling the whole thing “so lame.”
She also provided an alternative to how the game could have played out. The season 1 winner said if she was in production, she would have called out the number “2″ and then when all the pairs were in a room with the door closed they would discover the marbles hidden inside.
Several commenters on the Reality Alert clip embedded above agreed with Mai‘s take, both that her idea would have worked better and that it was scripted.
However, some of the actual season 2 contestants, like Steven Jones Jr. (Player 183), were more critical.
“Lmao. Mai has no idea,” Steven wrote.
Curt Stinson (Player 370) agreed with his fellow season 2 contestant, saying, “you are 100% correct!”
Kevin Diaz (Player 402) also chimed in: “The money got to her head Steven, forgot where she came from REALITY TV.”
