After initially pursuing a career in architecture, EMJAY went on to explore her passion for music amid the pandemic, moving to Mexico City and releasing her debut LAS MORRAS TAMBIÉN HACEN TR444P in 2023, making a powerful first move and claiming space in trap, a genre traditionally dominated by men.
She’s already collaborated with everyone from FLVCKKA to Gera MX to Metrika to Lismar to Belinda, racking up millions of streams and over half a million monthly listeners on Spotify.
This past year, EMJAY released her follow-up, me estoy volviendo loca and accompanying deluxe edition, and embarked on the mevl tour across Mexico, the United States and Central America.
Her newest single, “No me veas así…” (“Don’t Look at Me Like That”) taps into early ’00s pop nostalgia with a modern edge, complete with a personal narrative centered around vulnerability and self-worth.

10 FUN FACTS ABOUT EMJAY
1. I’m really good at cooking, even though I rarely have time for it… but I absolutely love it whenever I get the chance.
2. I think I have the most sensitive heart in the world. I can take the smallest moment in my life and turn it into three songs. I feel everything so intensely… I like that about myself, even if it also means I cry way too much hahahaha.
3. I was supposed to become an architect, but I didn’t pass the exam… so I went to Canada for a while and ended up working in construction… specifically demolition. I even ended up heading my own little team, and i think i was a really good boss tbh!! loved to work at construction, and learned lots of things which i still using on my day by day… as an example i think that i got my discipline and the passion to work from there. After that I moved to Mexico City, My plan was to retake the exam six months later, but I ended up falling in love with the music and with the city instead.
4. The first thing I do in any Airbnb or hotel is check for hidden cameras in detail ???? I definitely have a little persecution delusion going on…
5. I have no filter!! I say things exactly as they come to my mind. It’s a big part of who I am, even though it has gotten me into trouble a few times :p
6. I quit nicotine because I made myself a promise: if “BOSS” hit 20k streams on the first day, I’d stop. It reached 260k ???? so obviously I quit!! And that was exactly when my career started taking off :)))
7. My favorite food is tortas ahogadas and some good enmoladas… honestly, all the food from Guadalajara, because that’s home for me :)
8. I listen to absolutely everything… since I was little, I loved discovering new artists on platforms… If you put my playlist on shuffle, you’d hear anything from Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra to Yung Beef and Natanael Cano ????
9. I’ve always found so much inspiration in Lana Del Rey’s lyrics, I genuinely think she and I would understand each other on a very specific way idk:))
10. For my next project “Confesiones de las que me voy a arrepentir” (“Confessions I’m going to regret”) I went back to the nostalgia that the music I grew up with made me feel… all those early 2000’s, when everyone dreamed of having a garage band. My inspiration came from the artists I loved back then, or the songs I sang in the car with my parents and made me feel those first goosebumps for hearing a nice melody or a good lyric … from Molotov, and Gorillaz to Natalia Lafourcade, Belanova and of course, Belinda :)
