Cher & Kristen Bell Recall 'A Lot of Drama' on 'Burlesque' Movie Set

Cher and Kristen Bell are reflecting on their cult classic 2010 film Burlesque.

The 79-year-old singing legend visited Dax Shepard on the Monday (January 5) episode of his podcast Armchair Expert to discuss her career. Dax‘s wife and Cher‘s Burlesque co-star Kristen also joined for the episode.

In the film, Cher played Tess Scali, owner of the burlesque club, while Kristen played one of the main performers Ali. Christina Aguilera starred as newcomer Ali.

Thinking back on Burlesque, Cher alluded to drama that occurred on set that prevented the film from being “a really good fun movie” if it weren’t for “you-know who. Except for both of them.”

She and the Nobody Wants This star immediately clarified they weren’t referring to the other cast members, which included Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane, Julianne Hough, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci, and Peter Gallagher.

“It was a hard shoot. It was hard,” Kristen said.

Dax and Kristen were engaged when they filmed the movie and he chimed in, “What I think I can say, not being involved with it, was there was a romantic relationship happening for people that were very high above.”

“And that was playing out on set quite frequently and dramatically and uniquely to anyone that’s been in show business,” Dax added.

Cher agreed with Dax‘s comments and said, “There was another thing that I cannot mention, but I can’t mention it.”

According to her, there was a higher-up on the film who wanted to cut her song, “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” saying, “I’m cutting that song out cuz I don’t want Cher to ruin my movie.”

Kristen said that there had been “a lot of drama” on that set and to get through she would often “find someone to hold hands with in the corner and just laugh at everything.” So she was often doing that with Cher herself or Stanley Tucci, who played Cher‘s assistant, Sean, in the movie.

“I love Stanley,” Cher said.

Kristen, Cher, and Dax all declined to name names specifically, but The Hollywood Reporter previously shared an article highlighting the relationship between the film’s director Steve Antin and Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper, who were a couple at the time.

The report alleged that the two had “jaw-dropping” clashes on set, including an instance when Clint supposedly poured ice tea on Steve‘s head, among other alleged incidents.

Find out the strong opinion Cher shared on the podcast about Dax and Kristen‘s relationship!
