Jack Black Reveals Disney-Pixar Movie Role He Regrets Turning Down

Jack Black is looking back at the movie role he now regrets turning down!

While promoting his new comedy movie Anaconda, the 56-year-old School of Rock actor revealed that he turned down opportunity to play the villain in a fan-favorite Disney-Pixar movie.

Keep reading to find out more…As he spoke with CapitalFM, Jack was asked if he’s ever been forced to turn down a movie he really wanted to make.

Jack admitted that he’s usually hesitant to answer that question “because then the person who got the role… they look like s–t because, ‘Oh, I was a second choice? I was sloppy seconds!’”

His answer struck a cord with interviewer Jordan North, who responded, “You know what? I will never ask that question again. I never thought of that.”

However, Jack decided to he was still going to answer the question “because I don’t care.”

He then revealed that he was offered the role of Syndrome in 2004′s The Incredibles, which ultimately ended up going to My Name is Earl star Jason Lee.

“I was offered, and I do regret it, saying no… I was offered Syndrome in that fantastic movie The Incredibles — one of my favorites of all time, by the way,” Jack recalled, before revealing, “and I said no because I was like, ‘Uhhh, [director] Brad Bird? Never heard of him!’”

Jack also admitted that he felt the character lacked depth.

“This character that you’re offering me is like a villain, but he’s kinda one-dimensional. I’m interested but I’d like to see a rewrite,” Jack recalled telling Brad. “Will you add some dimensions to this character?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you’re done.’”

The Incredibles ended up being a huge hit with both fans and critics, and received a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“I learned a valuable lesson because when that movie came out, it was one of the best movies ever made,” Jack admitted. “I was like, ‘Why was I being so difficult?!’”
