Stars React to Don Lemon's Arrest After Covering Church Protest in Minnesota
Stars are reacting to the news of Don Lemon‘s arrest.
If you didn’t know, the 59-year-old journalist was arrested and taken into custody following his coverage of a protest at a church in Minneapolis, Michigan. Don and his producer were reporting on a protest at St. Paul Church on January 18, where it was believed one of the pastors was an ICE official.
His attorney, Abbe Lowell, has issued a statement: “Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards. Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done.”
Several stars and politicians are now speaking out as well.

Andy Cohen said: “They arrested Don and not the guys who murdered protestors?”
Josh Gad said: “What’s the BREAKING POINT? They want you to be a frog in boiling water. When people are arrested for first amendment protected activity or shot execution style for exercising their second amendment rights, it’s time to STOP being a frog & start being an enraged citizen who says ‘NO. F–K THIS. I will not remain idle.’ NOW is the moment to throw the boiling water back at this administration and say, ‘no, this is a not acceptable. We are a democracy regardless of your authoritarian hard-on.’”
Former employer CNN issued a statement, saying it “raises profoundly concerning questions about press freedom and the First Amendment. The Department of Justice already failed twice to get an arrest warrant for Don and several other journalists in Minnesota, where a chief judge of the Minnesota Federal District Court found there was ‘no evidence’ that there was any criminal behavior involved in their work.”
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis today responded to the arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort: “Journalists are under siege in America by our own government. The arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort have alarmed citizens nationwide, who do not want American freedoms and the rule of law to be replaced by harassment and state-sponsored disinformation. The freedom of the press is a cornerstone of American democracy, but that pillar is being shockingly eroded by government intimidation.”

They arrested Don Lemon. This is horrifying. I don’t care what your political beliefs or leanings are, what journalism outlet you represent, this absolutely cannot stand.

For those saying this is criminalizing journalism, journalists don’t get a pass when breaking the law just bc they have a mic. If I accompanied ppl storming an abortion clinic harassing/scaring/“traumatizing” the crying women while saying “But I’m a reporter!” I would absolutely…

Arresting a journalist is a blatant attempt to intimidate and a further indicator of Trump’s authoritarianism. It goes against the most fundamental American values outlined in the First Amendment.

Don Lemon is an accomplished journalist whose urgent work is protected by the First Amendment.
There is zero basis to arrest him and he should be freed immediately.
The Trump Justice Department is illegitimate and these extremists will all be held accountable for their crimes…
