Spencer woman dies after house catches fire.

SPENCER, Okla. (KFOR) -- Devastating news for a community in Spencer. State Fire Marshals confirm a woman has passed away after her home caught fire.

"As soon as I looked outside the window, and came outside and saw her car was here, I thought, 'She's got to be dead,'' said Ashley Ericksen, who lives across the street from the destroyed home.

Fire trucks lined the streets of a Spencer neighborhood, near Northeast 28th and Spencer road, around 6:00am Saturday.

Ericksen said her barking dogs woke her up. She peeked outside, saw the red and blue lights, as well as the flames.

"No, I've never seen anything like that in person," said Ericksen. "The flames were bellowing out of the top of the house."

Ericksen said the flames started in the garage then spread to the other side of the home.

"There had to be smoke completely filled inside the house," said Ericksen.

There was indeed smoke filling the home. When our News 4 crews arrived, gray smoke was pouring from every opening.

Ericksen told News 4 she knows the woman who lives inside. She's a friendly woman, who goes by 'Pat' or 'Patti.'

"She'd wave at me all the time," said Ericksen.

Ericksen was going to tell her to come warm up inside her home, but she didn't see Pat outside. However, she saw her car. She rushed outside to tell firefighters.

"I told them, 'There's a lady inside because her car is still there. So, she's got to be inside,'" said Ericksen.

Ericksen said it felt like an eternity before crews pulled the woman out.

"They had her on the front yard trying to resuscitate her," said Ericksen. "There was no response."

Fire Marshals told News 4, the woman was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

Other neighbors, who didn't want to go on camera, continually drove up and down the street asking News 4 what happened. When they learned the news, they were devastated.

Investigators are now working to determine what exactly started the blaze. They said it appears to be an accident. They also said there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.
