Edmond North girls wrestling team's season suspended over parent's actions
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — One of the state's best wrestling team's season has ended early, but not under its own terms.
A disciplinary decision from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) has ended the season for the girls wrestling team at Edmond North High School.
The decision comes after an incident at a tournament last weekend.
According to Edmond Public Schools, OSSAA says an egregious act by a parent, not a wrestler, is the reason the entire team is suspended.
Under an OSSAA rule enacted in 2022, teams or individuals can be suspended for the remainder of a season if two or more "egregious" acts of unsportsmanlike conduct occur at the same school, in the same activity, during the same season.
That includes actions by players, coaches, fans, and parents.
Edmond Public Schools has appealed the suspension.
We do not believe the team should be suspended over the actions of a parent.

The Edmond North girl's wrestling team is ranked as one of the best in the state, and USA Wrestling tells News 4 that one of the teammates, Bella Williams, is one of the nation's most successful wrestlers.
Williams was set to wrestle for her fourth straight state title, but now that is in limbo because of the team's suspension.
News 4 does not know which parent caused the suspension.
Edmond North will appeal this sanction to the OSSAA Board of Directors on February 12.
This policy has been in place for the past three years, and this is the first time we have had a team commit two egregious acts in the same season.
